PLANNED GIVING OPTIONS
Your Retirement Plan
If you do not need all the funds in your retirement account, consider a gift now or in the future and avoid potential future income taxes as well as estate taxes.
If you are 70½ or older, you have the opportunity to make tax-free charitable contributions directly from your IRA accounts without realizing income. Making gifts in 2008 and 2009 from IRA funds that would be subject to tax if withdrawn voluntarily or under mandatory withdrawal requirements may be a wise choice for you.
Gifts can be made in any amount, up to $100,000 directly to City Opera. Assets held in IRAs are subject to income tax when withdrawn during one’s lifetime or by survivors, but they may also be subject to estate tax if left to a loved one other than a spouse. IRAs may be a good option for some when deciding how to fund charitable gifts.

Will Bequests
Simple and flexible. You may choose to leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate; or assets such as stocks or real estate. Designate these funds to support the ongoing strength of the company through the endowment, or to be used now.
Receive income for life
Charitable Gift Annuities
Contribute cash or securities in exchange for tax-advantaged, guaranteed payments for life.
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between you and New York City Opera. In exchange for your irrevocable gift, we will pay you (or one or two others of your choice) fixed quarterly payments for life. The older you or your designated recipients are when you make the gift, the higher your payment will be.
Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)
A CRT provides you, or someone you designate, with income for life or for a period of years. You benefit by receiving a charitable deduction in the year you make the gift, by receiving income from the trust for the term of the trust, and by reducing the size of your taxable estate.
Consider this option for gifts of appreciated securities or real estate. You may avoid or defer potential capital gains taxes. You can establish a CRT during your lifetime or through your will.
Provide income to City Opera; reduce the cost of transferring asset to heirs
Charitable Lead Trust
City Opera receives income from the trust for a number of years. At the end of the term, your named beneficiary receives the trust principal. You can establish a CLT during your lifetime or through your will.
